Immune Testing

FACS (Flow Cytometry) Test

FACS (Fluorescence Activated Cell Sorter) is a highly precise cell measurement method that quantitatively measures cells one by one. Using optical sensors, it observes cells and performs analysis from multiple measurement data points per cell. A blood draw is taken to measure the classification of white blood cells and assess the balance of immune function. Because this is a specialized test, it is not commonly performed at other hospitals or clinics, but it is one of the most important tests for evaluating overall immune capability.

The figure below shows an example of FACS analysis results.

 CD3        Mature T cells
 CD4        Helper T cells
 CD8        Cytotoxic T cells (Killer T cells)
 CD14       Monocytes and Macrophages
 CD19       B cells
CD25       IL-2 receptor subunit highly expressed on activated T cells
 CD16+CD56   NK cells
