　"Hay fever" is the allergic response the body produces against pollen. When pollen enters through the nose or throat, lymphocytes recognize it as an enemy and produce IgE antibodies. These IgE antibodies bind to mast cells, and when pollen re-enters the body, chemicals such as histamine are released, causing symptoms like sneezing, runny nose, nasal congestion, and itchy eyes. Conventional treatments have generally focused on suppressing inflammation or alleviating symptoms.



　As shown in the diagram, a drug that blocks cell-surface receptors (Xolair) is used to prevent IgE from binding to mast cells, creating an environment in which allergic symptoms are less likely to occur.
